Description of Cairo Once-Upon-A-Time Tour:
This tour is about stories – about art, about culture, but most of all about the characters from history you’ll meet on the way. Your guide will tell you about the famous characters – from kings to concubines – and make Cairo’s past come alive in a way no guidebook could ever do. We’ll begin with perhaps the best restored historical house in Cairo, full of hidden treasures. Next it’s on to the Citadel, the incredible Medieval fortress built by Saladin, the man who defeated Richard the Lionheart. After a tasty lunch, you’ll walk through the famous Khan El-Khalili Market on the way to explore Medieval Cairo. Our guide will take you on a journey starting from the tenth century, exploring extraordinary mosques and monuments, and shedding light on the achievements, social life and customs of various individuals and peoples, including the Mamluks – slaves who eventually became kings. We’ll finish the tour at a quality pastry shop, trying Egypt’s best-known sweet, basbousa.
